Around the NFL
Re: Around the NFL
Rams also traded Robert Quinn to Miami for a 4th and swapped 6ths. At one point Quinn was a terror but he's struggled with injuries and doesn't fit Wade's D that well, plus it clears more space for them to work on an extension for Donald.
Seattle trades Michael Bennett (with late round picks swap) for WR Marcus Johnson. Seattle is purging and Philly likely gains from this. Bennett is still good and on a fairly cheap, short term deal. They'll need him since they're going to likely lose Curry and Bradham and Allen from their front 7, so a good move for them for little price.
Panthers re-signed Gano for 4 years $17mill ($9mill guaranteed). Welcome back Marty Hurney...stupid contract.
Chris Baker signs with Cincy for 1 year $3mill. Good signing for them as it's cheap and might motivate him to play like he did in '16 as opposed to mailing it in last year.
Bills signed Chris Ivory for 2 years $5.5mill ($3.25mill guaranteed). Strange signing, he's older, slow, wasn't very good the last few years, and there are a lot of RB options out there.

Re: Around the NFL
I do like the fact that the Giants have lost 2 draft picks for the 2018 draft. I'm not sure what their cap situation is, but they did spend a ton in the 2016 offseason. If they sign Norwell as rumored, that's going to be a huge chunk, see below. Eagles will be tough again. Not sure the Cowboys cap situation either, but they just laid out a chunk by tagging Demarcus Lawrence, which oddly enough was the guy the drafted right after the trade with us that year. Might have been the year we took Murphy after that trade back??
NFL draft insider Tony Pauline says "belief" around the league is free agent OG Andrew Norwell signing with the Giants is "a done deal."
The top guard on the market, Norwell was one of ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman's most-prized discoveries as an undrafted free agent. Gettleman now runs the Giants, who have needs all over the line. At $11.7 million per year, the Raiders made Kelechi Osemele the NFL's highest-paid guard in 2016. Osemele was topped by Browns RG Kevin Zeitler's $12.0 million annually last offseason.

Re: Around the NFL
I think the Giants are in decent shape cap-wise but they have a lot of work to do. Looks like they're losing Pugh and Richburg to FA and want to move on from Flowers if possible. They also have a few RB's who are FA's and have OBJ's next massive deal to factor in. IMO, the money they spent on D prior to '16 will likely have been for naught by the time they fix the many holes on that offense.
Eagles will be solid but they are already over the cap, so that means they're losing a few impact starters (Allen, Bradham, Burton, Curry and possibly Robinson) and have some calls to make on a few other spots (Long, Blount) as well as looking towards the future for Wentz's new deal. They have a window now and need to take some chances but I think they step back next year.
Dallas is also in an interesting place. The depth they lost on o-line before last year ended up hitting them, and this year they need to find Witten's replacement, make a call on Dez who isn't what he used to be and add more WR depth. They're also looking at thinning talent at LB and still have needs on d-line. With luck they could bounce back, or they could be middling very easily again IMO.

Giants : agree
Philly: give me 1 or both of Bradham and Robinson
Dal : read rumor of us having interest in ILB Hitchens possibly

Talib traded to Rams for a 5th rounder, but will pick up $11 million base salary in 2018 and an $8 million base salary in 2019.

I get the sense that Brown isn't returning to the Skins, so I'd take Bradham in a heartbeat. Not as flashy but very solid all around and much better in coverage. I don't love Robinson, think he benefited from a strong overall D, has a 90's SB MVP Larry Brown from Dallas vibe to me.
Hitchens interests me as well. Young, gotten better each year and will come in cheap. Taking talent from a rival is only a bonus.

With Peters that gives that D a really strong set of DB's, and retaining Joyner only helps, but that's a lot of money they're stringing together in that secondary.

Re: Around the NFL
WR Mike Evans 5yr/$82M with I think $55M g
DT Justin Ellis 3yr/$15M+ with $6M g
Makes me think Allen Robinson will be too high for us. I can still easily see us target WR Paul Richardson and DL Saquaon Jones bot in that $6M - $7M range??

Landry traded to Browns for a pick this year and one next. Cleveland assembling an attractive set of receivers.

Looks like philly is trading Torrey Smith to Carolina for a young DB. Shedding cap space with this move and coverage for Robinson likely moving on. Roseman is making a lot of quality moves this off-season.

Saw that.... WHY?? There is no reason for him to be in this league anymore. Has to be a ridiculously low contract. Heard it was a 1 year deal. Probably vet min.?

I would take a flyer on that as a backup.

Reuben Foster charged with multiple felonies. Fortune smiled on the Skins when Allen dropped last year.

Sure did, and I recall it being reported after the draft that we had wanted to trade back up into the 1st to get him.

Re: Around the NFL
^^At least for now...nobody fist pumped more than Aaron Rodgers after this news.
In other news, Jason Witten (finally) retired. He's one of the few Cowboys players that I generally liked watching play but hated that he was on that team. He's tailed off in recent years but was still a very reliable target. Saw somewhere that Dak completed @ 50% of all targets he threw in the last two years to Dez and Witten. That offense might struggle some next year.

Re: Around the NFL
Giants, Eagles and Cowboys all losing on Sunday was fun...be a real cap to the week if the Skins can win tonight and put a little distance between themselves and the rest of those terrible franchises. Even if they lose:
-Cowboys still have Garrett as their coach (and Jerruh as their owner fwiw)
-the Eagles have a bit of a hangover and aren't getting some of the breaks they did last year
-NY looks to be in turmoil. OBJ calling out Eli, then he has a critical drop and special teams error. Fantastic.

OBJ is right about Eli, though. That douche sucks hard. But the gints were insane to give obj so much money. Coughlin would have traded him.

Re: Around the NFL
Noticed a horrific day of kicking other than Gano's game winner. Also saw lots of questionable playcalling, most noticeable with the Texans last night. That play right before the half looked like a Gruden-esque botch. Also not sure why teams like sweeps when its 4th and inches. HATE that call, but looks awesome when it works haha
EDIT : looks like the Giants are going to trade or cut OL Ereck Flowers. He has been a bust, soooo glad we got Scherff before they did. I might throw a conditional 7th at best, and see if we can groom him at G. I do like the potential upside of our young guys Parris/Durant...but Flowers has really good size, he just isn't an NFL OT.
Double EDIT : Giants will release OT Ereck Flowers if he is not traded by 4 p.m. Tuesday, per source. I think I would wait until he is cut. He isn't that good, but a switch to G might be worth a shot from his perspective.
