Re: Draft/ Free Agency,Coach, GM 2024
Regardless of the outcome of todays game, my day is made. I went to McDs drive through for lunch. As is custom on SB day, I have a Redskins shirt on. Just so happens that a young Native American gentleman processed my order. He looked at my shirt and said…”Thank you for wearing the logo of the team that represents me and my people. I know most people have forgotten they were even the Redskins at this point. I’m sad the people who did this are coming after the Chiefs now.”

So to Trent Williams, Kyle Shanahan and Chase Young you lost. You deserve that considering how you treated the Washington fans.

When the Washington Commanders were in the middle of their search for a new head coach, and analysts weighed the positives and negatives of each potential candidate, one thing stood out about Dan Quinn. Most everyone believed Quinn could put together a quality coaching staff. Quinn got the job, and the day after Washington officially announced his hiring, his first staff hire was revealed: Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
Kingsbury, the former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, spent the 2023 season as an analyst for the UCLA Trojans. He interviewed for the offensive coordinator positions with the Las Vegas Raiders and Chicago Bears. Around the NFL, it was viewed as an impressive get for Quinn.
Shortly after, Quinn hired former Cowboys secondary coach Joe Whitt Jr. as his defensive coordinator. Whitt was one of the finalists in Dallas to replace Quinn but chose Washington instead of formally interviewing with the Cowboys.
On Thursday, Quinn continued to add to his staff by hiring former Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson in a prominent role. The Commanders also added former Raiders and Packers assistant Jason Simmons as the defensive pass-game coordinator.
The hits kept coming on Friday when it was revealed Washington was expected to hire Larry Izzo as special teams coordinator. A former Pro Bowl player, Izzo has been outstanding, leading the Seahawks’ special teams for the past three seasons.
After Izzo’s potential agreement, Quinn has unofficially hired seven assistant coaches. He has several other positions to fill, but he doesn’t believe that will be a problem. “There are people that really, really want to be here,” Quinn said. “And that should speak to where this organization is headed and what’s going down because people feel that energy that’s going to come on. So, behind the scenes, you and the fans would be pumped to know that people are really pushing to be a part of this.”
Quinn’s hires thus far prove he’s correct. Former head coach Ron Rivera often hired his buddies, while Quinn is going after the best.
The times have indeed changed.
This is a super under-rated aspect to Quinn and so far I'm really pleased with the guys he's bringing in. Quality coaching will be a massive help for this team, no matter the personnel.

The new coaching staff alone would get us 3 or 4 more wins.

Re: Draft/ Free Agency,Coach, GM 2024
ES is currently having a meltdown over the Johnson hiring. I mean, I’m a little nervous about hiring the Giants O line coach, but seriously using last year as a judge really isn’t fair. When your line at times consists of 4th stringers and guys you signed on Wednesday and your idiot head coach doesn’t take that into account in his play calling, it’s not a surprise what the results were.

For example, some folks on that board are wanting Quinn fired for hiring this O line guy.

Re: Draft/ Free Agency,Coach, GM 2024
Dan Graziano who is fairly reliable is saying that he thinks the Pats will trade their #3 pick. Falcons and Vikes may be interested since both needs a qb. Doubt Vikings will resign Cousins. Jumping up from #8 or #11 to #3 makes more sense than trying to get to #1.
If Chicago decides to trade their pick, that would be 2 less teams to work with so odds of us getting #1 increases. I understand many think we shouldn’t trade up and actually trade down to get more picks but I’m all in on Caleb. Although there are more reports I’m hearing that he may be a bit immature. Obviously Kingsbury would be able to provide some insight on his demeanor.

This would be an amazing draft if it happens although highly doubt Bears taking a LT overall number 1.

Re: Draft/ Free Agency,Coach, GM 2024
There was a story yesterday from Schefter where he said he didn't expect the Commodes to trade up. He was spot on about the coach hiring before anyone else. My guess is that he is right about this as well.

we can fill a few holes with our Two high 2nd round picks. We're not trading up. I'm happy we hired Kingsbury because he would know what to make of Caleb Williams " red flags" should he fall to us at # 2 overall.

Great hire. He was very highly regarded just a few years ago. I wondered what happened to him. They also hired John Pagano for the defense. Both guys have a lot of experience coaching in the NFL and were defensive coordinators at one point in their career. Quinn and Peters are doing a great job bringing in talented guys.

So we hired former Giants OL Bobby Johnson. He just got FIRED from the G-men due to poor offensive line performance. One of the most important things we need to build is a strong offensive line. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me why this is a good hire.

Re: Draft/ Free Agency,Coach, GM 2024
I know he had previous experience in Buffalo and their O line was Ok then. Last year the Giants O line had many injuries and at several points were starting one or two guys that were signed off the street that week and were calling guys out of retirement to play. Their head coach basically didn’t take any of this into account when it came to game planning or play calling. Also, the guys they have for the most part just aren’t very good and sometimes no matter how well coached they are, they just aren’t good enough to play in the NFL. That being said, I have my doubts about this move, but with all the other hires being pretty decent, I’ll give Quinn the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Because the guys making decisions here know a lot more about what will be good for this franchise than we do
everyone here will be held accountable for doing their jobs or they will be gone

For the Giants O line last year I think anything that could go wrong did. Their biggest problem is their head coach. Like I said above, Quinn seems to be getting decent marks for his hires so I’ll let this one play out.

I think it's pretty obvious that since Peter didn't land Ben Johnson, he's trying to hire as many offensive coaches named Johnson as he can.

And for consistency he is keeping Kerrigan which I am happy with.

Time will tell on this, but there's a lot of stories coming out about what a mess Daboll has created. Flip side, we had Bill Callahan for years and the line wasn't that great either, so ......

I just read elsewhere that Johnson has experience teaching the specific skills that Klinsbury’s offense requires so I think that played a part in the hire as well.

Slim pickings in free agency and almost anyone who is good will get the franchise tag.

Tee Higgins is someone I hope we look at. I don’t think Cincy can afford him. They just signed Burrow and have to resign Chase and they are notoriously cheap.
With Curtis being a free agent, we could bring him in as our only taller wideout. A rookie qb will always like that guy who can battle for jump balls and he is typically pretty good at it. He could be our Art Monk type with Terry and Jahan as our Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders type. Along those lines, it would be nice to draft a tall receiving TE with sure hands as our true end zone threat ala Clint Didier type.
Ah to reminisce the good ol’ days!
