2019 First-round selection order

Postby hogs86 » Tue Dec 04, 2018 12:20 am

Looks like we would have the 16th draft pick if the season would end today. With both QB's out i would say it's safe to say we will be drafting a QB in the 2019 NFL Draft.

If we lose out, which is very possible. 6-10 should get us well within a top 10 pick.

I was thinking the same. I am already looking a QB's. QB Jarrett Stidham is going to enter the upcoming draft. Stidham was rated as a possible mid-first round pick entering the season, but his grade slipped significantly as he had a very up-and-down year. Also another QB that is under the radar is Clayton Thorson 6-3 225 4.7 40 Northwestern. This is the guy i wanted last year but he was hurt and returned for his senior year. Maybe the best Pro rated QB. I think both QB will go in the 2nd round. Both could start or they can watch and learn behind McCoy or Smith if healthy.

Thorson was my target last year as well. Blew his knee out on a trick play in the bowl game. I would be fine with him. There are a handful of other guys I could live with in the 2nd round too.

Thorson has two things going for him that always intrigue me: 1) tons of experience, almost 50 games and 2) producing on a team that is mid-level at best talent wise. I haven't seen him play all that much, but putting up strong numbers and getting team like NWestern to compete is saying something. It's reminds me a lot of what Russel Wilson did at NCState. QB is such a cerebral position and one that demands quick thinking and execution and that's why I love guys with 2+ seasons of starting experience and it's rare to see it.

I would highly doubt we pick much later than 14, most likely closing in around 8-12 with what we have on the field. Might not be a worthwhile qb to pick there in Round 1, but good chance we can get a guy with upside in Round 2 at that spot. Better yet, and yes SkinsRUs I'm doing it...could be a decent spot to trade back 8-10 spots and still get our guy while adding extra picks for 2020...which is what I would do. Something like our " #10 for a 2019 4th ( to make up for the HHCD trade ) and a 2020 1st and whatever else.

Apparently there is supposed to be a big run on D Line and and other positions in the beginning of this draft because of the needs of the teams. There could be one of the top 2 QBs of the years at pick 8-10. Take one this year and next year also since that is supposed to be the good QB draft and hope one of the 2 pans out. With our track record we need all the draft QB's we can get.

Makes sense esp with us needing a backup qb too eventually.

I see what you did there hahaha....but its a pretty good idea :) Serious though, we already used our 6th and 4th on Alexander and Dix. I could easily see us trade back to recoup one of those, but in my mind, any other trade backs will probably be made with the 2020 draft in mind. We have 9 picks or something like that this year + a good collection of guys coming back from IR.

I know how you feel. I think we have to know what direction the team is going with Gruden and Allen also who we will be rolling with at QB. I think Monday will be a big day if Gruden or Allen is gone.

Lots of decisions to be made in the coming weeks. I heard a few of the business staff was let go, was wishing they listed Allen too.

just a month or two ago it seemed like we had a lot of picks. Now with the QB, OL, S, CB, LB, WR, TE, holes we have, we don't have nearly enough. With all of these holes it feels like the ship is sinking. Please god, why do we have to suck so bad every year?!

I read somewhere that had we lost to the Jags, we would have ended up with the 8th pick. Times like that where you kind of wished we lost. On the other hand, had the refs not blown the Titans game for us..we would be picking 19th or 20th.

My current thinking is that if we stay at #15 my choice is a true impact player at Edge/OLB, TE or QB...even though I think I prefer a Day 2 QB. I LOVE TE Hockenberry but don't think he will drop to our 2nd rounder...and I might think of pulling the trigger at 15 for him. He can catch and block..reminds me of a young Gronk. In that scenario with Hockenberry at 15, Day 2 would get me my EDGE, LG and WR/QB. If Hockenberry isn't there at 15, I might be inclined to go ILB, keep day 2 to the same. Day 3 would be QB or WR...whoever we don't grab on Day 2 + 2 DBs, DE. And yes SkinsRUs....with only 8 picks I will definitely be looking at refill our 4th and 6th rounders that we don't currently have. Hockenberry + a day 2 LG stud would both help the run game that includes a returning Guice, but also whoever we are starting at QB in 2019..give him a good strong run game/OL.
